What is "The Cat Album"? Here's a review by Scram Magazine (ScramMagazine.com): "Cat lovers and fans of gentle, sixties-inflected pop alike will be tickled by Doug Newman's affectionate tribute to the kitties in his life. I'm both, and really dig this sweet and charming disc. The tunes are catchy and the themes well drawn from life, with songs about cats lost and (happily) found, not really wanting to give away that litter of kittens, honoring a cat's need for independance, ear mite infestations and the weird things cats like to eat. ..." "The Sandhill Waltz" is all songs from my days in Kansas City and Minnesota. I lived in Kansas City about 10 years and Minnesota- the Twin Cities, for about 8 years. All the tunes were recorded at my homes- or I should say my apartments, I’ve had over the years- some here in Los Angeles where I am now, using my present home recording system and the rest from back in Kansas City using an old reel-to-reel and a cassette player. I’m using various guitars of mine like my Gibson J-45, J-30, LG-3, LG-2, Martin 2-17, Martin/Sigma and Harmony Sovereign. All the songs were written by me except for "I'll Never Lose Her Now", which is a song of my brother Dwight's, and "Wish You Knew" and "Cascade Creek", which were co-written with Dwight, and "In the Sweet By and By"- the traditional with an arrangement by me. For the "In the Sweet By and By", I used a Larivee Gutiar that my Dad had at the time and it was recorded at his home in Colorado Springs along with "Cascade Creek". Dwight sings harmony on "The Coyote and the Prairie Dog" and plays a second guitar part on the reprised-second take of "Send Her Back to Me". You can also listen to Dwight performing "I'll Never Lose Her Now" and "Wish You Knew" here at the website. The album can be purchased for $12 (includes postage in U.S) by using Google Checkout via the button above or by contacting me at my email- dgnewman@yahoo.com. The album will also be available at iTunes and other online stores in the near future. |
